day 13: Zion NP - St. George - Arizona - Nevada - Las Vegas

    .                                                                Our route on day 13 (lenght: 172 miles / 279 km)
On the thirteenth day we closed our Grand Circle round trip at the Colorado Plateau with the last stage back to Las Vegas. Before we drove back we entered the Zion National Park again to take a ride on the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and a hike at the Riverside Walk. On the way back to Las Vegas we made a stop at St. George, Utah.

A prominent feature of Zion National Park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles long, cut through the colored Navajo Sandstone by the Virgin River. The lowest elevation is 3,666 ft (1,117 m) and the highest elevation is 8,726 ft (2,660 m). Unlike the Grand Canyon where you stand on the rim and look out, Zion Canyon is usually viewed from the bottom looking up.

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive starts at the south entrance and is going almost 7 miles into Zion Canyon. This drive is closed for private cars, but you can go by a free shuttle bus driving frequently and stopping at several places on the way.

Zion NP Riverside Walk

The trail starts at the Temple of Sinawava, the last stop on the Zion Canyon Shuttle. Here the main canyon gets tall and narrow. The Riverside Walk heads a mile and a half up the canyon where you get wonderful views of the Virgin River. The trail ends at a point where the canyon is so narrow that there are no banks of land on either side of the river. This is the start of the more rugged Zion Narrows hike.

After ten days on the road, driven almost 2000 miles (more than 3000 km), visiting seven national parks, with changing landscapes and climates every day, we finally arrived back to Las Vegas, NV.

Before returning our Rental RV, we stayed another night at the Oasis RV Resort. There we relaxed for the rest of the day and enjoyed the two swimming pools and the hot spa.
