Route Map Day Four         Highway near Searchlight, NV             Train near Arrowhead, CA

Time To Say Goodbye. Before we started our Grand Circle tour, we had to say goodbye to Marilyn and Herman. Although this was the shortest of our meetings, we had a very good time together in Las Vegas. We hope to see them again next year.

We started our trip heading south on US Highway 95.
We drove through the Mojave desert and crossed the border to California. On our former vacations to the USA we stayed mainly in California. This time it was only for about two hours. After a short break in Needles, we already crossed the next state border into Arizona. At about noon we reached Lake Havasu City.

After a shopping break at the lake Havasu City Wal*Mart, we went to the London Bridge.

The London Bridg is an original. It was build in 1825 in London, England across the Thames River. In 1962 the British Government discovered that the bridge was sinking and would break down and they decided to sell the bridge. Robert McCulloch bought the bridge for $2,460,000 and made plans to move the bridge to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The bridge was deconstructed and each piece was numbered. As the pieces were moved in 1968 to Arizona the bridge were reconstructed over a one-mile side channel of Lake Havasu. The reconstruction was finished in 1971.
Lake Havasu is a 45 miles long water reservoir, provided by Parker Dam, wich spans the Colorado River since 1938. Lake Havasu and the Colorado River are also the state border between California and Arizona.
Leaving Lake Havasu City, we drove back north on AZ Highway 95 to the Interstate 40. On the I-40 we drove north to Kingman, where we went to the KOA-Kampground, for our first night in Arizona on this tour.
From the KOA-Kampground we could see the US Highway 66, better known as Route 66. The Route 66 was our way to the east on the next day.
